Cardiac Rhythm Management

Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers for The Journal of Innovations in Cardiac Rhythm Management (JICRM) are partners in our efforts to ensure that only manuscripts of the highest quality that discuss relevant topics in the field of cardiac electrophysiology are published. JICRM welcomes and appreciates all qualified candidates who are interested in becoming peer reviewers for the Journal.

Become a Peer Reviewer

To be considered as a potential peer reviewer for JICRM, please create an account in Editorial Manager and send an email to the Editorial Office containing information on your qualifications and expressing your interest.

Instructions

Peer Reviewer Instructions

JICRM supports and refers its peer reviewers to the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers. All manuscripts submitted to JICRM are reviewed by at least two independent experts in a relevant area. The reviewers make a scientific assessment and a recommendation to the editors. The reviewers remain unknown to authors, and vice versa. The handling editor considers the manuscript and the reviewers’ comments prior to making a final decision regarding publication, specifically “Reject,” “Accept,” or “Revise.” Notably, if the decision is “Revise,” the author(s) will have the chance to revise and resubmit their manuscript, and it is expected that the peer reviewers will re-review the revised manuscript. It is also expected that all editors and reviewers handle all submissions in confidence.

Peer reviewers for JICRM should strive to perform a review of their assigned manuscript to the best of their ability and knowledge. They should attempt to examine the manuscript draft assigned, with respect to the scientific or procedural aspects contained within and for errors or incorrect statements, incomplete explanations or thoughts, and/or missing information, and should provide direction to the author(s) on the step(s) to take to improve the manuscript and to the handling editor regarding the pros and cons of accepting the manuscript for publication, specifically keeping in mind the following questions: (1) is the article relevant and important and/or does it add to the existing compilation of knowledge? (2) Will it help readers of JICRM improve their level of knowledge, skills or experience?

The opinions and information provided by peer reviewers during the peer review process serve as key details in the publisher’s final determination process for accepting or rejecting a manuscript for publication. Peer reviewers should keep in mind that existing grammatical/language errors and/or image quality concerns are the purview of the handling editor, and should not be sole grounds for recommending manuscript rejection.

All peer reviewers will receive a thank-you email upon completion of their review. We are unable to provide additional documentation of your participation in our peer review process at this time.

Ethics and Conflicts of Interest

Peer reviewers should review the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers for more information on peer review ethics. The success of the peer review process depends largely on the agreement that everyone involved behaves responsibly and ethically to ensure continued scholarly and scientific integrity. Peer reviewers should not allow their decision to be influenced by outside forces, and should respect the confidentiality of the peer review process and not share information with other individuals or institutions. Failure to adhere to the standards may result in the removal of the individual from the peer reviewer roster of JICRM. Furthermore, any suggestion that an editor or reviewer is appropriating ideas from a manuscript they handled for the Journal will be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the following COPE guidelines: http://publicationethics.org/files/u7140/Appropriated.pdf.

Peer reviewers should be aware of their potential conflicts of interest when reviewing a manuscript, and should not accept an invitation to review a manuscript if performing a review of the manuscript in question would constitute or result in a conflict of interest. Potential conflicts of interest can include, but are not limited to, personal, professional and financial conflicts of interest. For any assistance in determining whether a potential conflict of interest is relevant, please contact the Editorial Office.

Peer Review Process

During the peer review process, selected peer reviewers will receive an invitation to review a manuscript via email, or can check the status of any invitations by logging into their Editorial Manager account. Peer reviewers are asked to accept or decline the invitation to review within seven days of its issuance and therefore should be aware of any scheduling conflicts they may have when making this decision. Upon acceptance of the invitation, peer reviewers will have seven days to review the manuscript document and its accompanying images and compile their thoughts on the manuscript for the author(s) and editor to view, respectively. These perspectives on the manuscript’s suitability for publishing should be submitted through Editorial Manager and the decision of “Reject,” “Major Revision,” “Minor Revision,” or “Accept” be marked.

Peer reviewers should be aware that if their decision is “Major Revision” or “Minor Revision” and the author(s) choose to make the requested corrections, that they will be expected to re-review the manuscript again to determine whether the author(s) have adequately addressed their comments, suggestions and concerns, following the making of any revisions by the author(s). The process for providing perspectives and selecting a decision for this second review is similar; peer reviewers are given five days to complete their second review.

If a peer reviewer cannot complete a review within the specified amount of time set by the review process for any reason, they are asked to contact the Editorial Office. The handling editor reserves the right to revoke any peer review invitation where deemed appropriate.
